Step By Step
Our Inclusive Walking Group for Young People with Disabilities
At Smile For Life, we believe that everyone deserves the chance to enjoy the outdoors, build friendships, and feel the freedom of movement — step by step, at their own pace.
That’s why we created our Inclusive Walking Group, designed especially for young people with disabilities. Whether you’re a seasoned walker or just starting out, this group offers a supportive and welcoming space where physical ability is never a barrier to connection, nature and friendship.
What We’re About
Our walking group is about more than just walking. It’s about:
- Connecting with nature in a safe and accessible way
- Meeting new friends and building a strong, inclusive community
- Sharing stories, laughter, and support in every step we take
- Encouraging confidence and independence through movement
Each walk is carefully planned with accessibility in mind, including step-free routes, rest points, and trained volunteers on hand to support individual needs.
Who Can Join?
Our group is open to young people with physical, sensory, learning, or hidden disabilities, aged 14 +. We welcome walkers who use mobility aids, support workers, and carers — because community means including everyone.
Why Walking?
Walking is a simple, joyful way to boost physical and mental wellbeing. But more than that, it brings people together. Our group turns everyday paths into adventures, and strangers into friends. For many of our members, it’s not just about getting from A to B — it’s about belonging.
How to Get Involved
To find out when our next walk is or to ask about accessibility, support needs, or how to volunteer, please email paula@smileforlife.org.uk.
Let’s take steps toward inclusion — together.
