Volunteering
Become part of Smile For Life and help us change lives!
Volunteers are absolutely vital to helping the charity achieve its aim of making a difference to the lives of young people with physical and learning disabilities across the North East.
Whether it’s overseeing young people in our café, helping out at events, or even helping at our weekly Tuesday Club, there are roles suited to your skills and expertise, no matter your age or background.
Get in touch today to find out how you can help Smile For Life change lives.
Opportunity:
MENTOR AT CAFE BEAM
This rewarding voluntary role provides hands on support and encouragement to the young people who carry out their work placement each day in Cafe Beam. All of our young people have a learning or physical disability and require supervision as they learn to carry out work tasks and develop their confidence when meeting members of the public who visit our cafe. Volunteer Mentors usually assist one morning or one afternoon each week which enables them to build a rapport with the youngsters they are working with. Having said this we always need Mentors on an ad-hoc basis and would be very grateful for any help you could offer.
It is important that our mentors are friendly, approachable, patient, flexible and can adapt to working in both busy and quiet periods. As a volunteer mentor you will be required to complete our training and induction programme and undergo a full Disclosure & Barring Check.

Opportunity:
EVENT VOLUNTEER
This voluntary role is less frequent, and can mean getting involved in every way possible, from helping set up events to admin and organisation. We hold multiple fundraising events each year, and couldn’t do it without our amazing volunteers, who offer endless support to our work.
For further information, or if you’d like to volunteer your time to our charity as an Event Volunteer, please contact our Volunteer Co-ordinator Lydia Chadwick on 0191 284 4166 or email lydia@smileforlife.org.uk
